WRITING is a way to discover what you think. Through the writing process, a writer starts from a tangled heap of unrelated ideas and works toward clarity. READING and WRITING something important everyday, in and out of school, is vital for continuous growth as a writer.
Good written communication reflects elaboration, coherence, and unity. (see effective communicator ESLR)
Elaboration: Strong main idea and supporting details
Coherence: transition phrases and logical connections
Unity: Paragraphs support overall topic/thesis and sentences support topic sentence in paragraph
Domains of Writing: Narration (Autobiographical Incident, Story), Information (Report of Information, Observational Writing), Personal Experience (Firsthand Biography, Reflection), Persuasion (Evaluation, Problem Solution, Speculation About Causes or Effects, Interpretation, Controversial Issues).
Where to Get Published
If you are interested in having your writing published, you can send your work to some of the publications listed here. Always enclose a stamped, self-addressed return envelope when sending material to any publication. Good luck!
